Great article Christian. Made me think of similar times years ago, cycling with a friend to a bridge near us that crossed the A27 where we would watch for trucks with CB antennas and try to contact them on a handheld on channel 19…..blimey so long ago now….73s!
Wow. I often think about this. How it seemed perfectly fine for kids to use radio comms to chat with truckers. Not sure how that might be perceived today. That said, one of my first experiences of pron (outside of the mags that would be strewn by the sides of roads) was when (allegedly) exploring the airwaves with a scanner. I inadvertently intercepted analogue phone calls from the local truck stop to those 'special numbers'. Suddenly the airwaves got very grown up indeed. :-)
Indeed☺️ Made me remember using my AOR 1000 scanner in the early 90s, listening in to mobile phone conversations, and the emergency services etc, happy days before TETRA ruined all the fun😄73s!
